Our Soccer Program
The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville (DSAJ) sponsors a soccer team that plays each Saturday morning at 9:00am at Patton Park (2850 Hodges Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32246). The annual season typically starts the last Saturday in October and runs through the end of February. The team is open to anyone with a developmental disability regardless of age. We start with some warm-up exercises and soccer drills, followed by a soccer game. The players are grouped into teams based on age and soccer skills.
Our purpose is to provide an environment in which everyone participating can have fun, exercise safely, learn how to play as a team and make friends. We emphasize safety, team spirit and good sportsmanship conduct. Our simple rules for the game are:
- All balls stay on the ground when practicing and playing.
- Players should wear appropriate play clothing or team uniform, and tennis shoes or soccer cleats.
- Good sportsmanship is expected at all times.
- Each player must have a parent, guardian, family member or other responsible person at the field.
- Fun competition and a supportive environment.
A weekly email is sent to those who have registered during the season to keep parents and players informed of any changes. For more information or to register, please contact Elise Nowikowski via email at elisenow@aol.com or phone at 904.398.8274.
